What Is A Hole Behind The Molar With Discolored And Tender Gums Suggestive Of?

Two days ago, I thought I felt a popcorn kernel in between my top right molar and my gums. I repeatedly tried throughout the day to "pick" it out. Yesterday I took a look with a flashlight and small mirror and noticed a small hole/divot right behind my molar. It seems that what i thought was a kernel waa just a rough edge on the hole. The surrounding gums are slightly discolored and tender. I have a dentist appointment tomorrow, what might it be?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have decay in your molar tooth that has led to hole in tooth and infection in gum leading to discoloration and also pain..

I would suggest you to consult your Dentist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like x ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

In case if there is only decay and the nerve is not exposed then only cleaning or removal of decay and filling with a toothbrush coloured filling material is appropriate..
In case of nerve is exposed then Root Canal treatment will be advised..
