What Is A Moving Lump At The Top Of Adam S Apple With Soreness Suggestive Of?

Hi, I m a 42 year old male. When shaving last night I notice my Adam s apple was sore to touch. At the top front toof my Adam s apple their seems to be a small lump which is odd to touch, never felt this before. When I hold this lump between my forefinger and thumb it feels slightly sore/odd and I can move it from side to side slightly squidgy. Is this normal and I ve never noticed before? If not normal would I need to visit the doctor?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Possible causes like thyroid swelling or cysts like thyroglossal cyst must be ruled out.

An ultrasound scan is required to make a diagnosis. A fine needle biopsy may be required in case of diagnostic confusion.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
