I have my results for gram stain (throat swab) Gram stain shows moderate epithelial cells and rare pu cells with few gram positive bacilli and coccobacilli;few gram positive cocci in pairs, in tetrads and in short chains and rare gram negative bacilli... my questions is my results ok?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Gram's stain is done to detect bacteria and to determine whether it is gram positive or gram negative. The throat swab shows presence of epithelial cells, pus cells and mixed population of bacteria. Pus cells suggest presence of infection. The bacteria present on throat swab are mixed population of gram positive and gram negative bacilli (rod shaped bacteria), coccobacilli (oval shaped bacteria) and cocci (spherical bacteria) arranged in groups and chains.
A broad spectrum antibiotic will be helpful because a mixed population of bacteria is detected. You need to consult your doctor with report for prescription of antibiotic.
