What Is A Soft, Tender, Painful Cyst On The Left Foot Suggestive Of?

I was to the doctor today with a cyst on my left foot, on the arch, very near to the heel. It is a soft and very tender lump, about the size of a dime. My doctor told me it is a cyst and i thought he used a word that started with C to name it. He said it contains fibrous tissue and nerves wrapped up together. It is causing a lot of pain with standing and walking. Do you know what it could be called?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I believe you mean Ganglion cyst.
This usually occurs as a result of trauma or strain to the joint underneath.

If it is causing severe pain, I recommend that it be removed.
Commonly the cysts dissappear on their own in a few weeks. But if it is persists or causes severe symptoms, better to have it Excised
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you good health
