Hi, An ankle arthroscopy is usually carried out under general anesthesia. The post operative pain is well controlled with oral pain killers which may include paracetamol and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen. Codeine may be needed in the first 24 hours. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB FRCA
No most likely you will be under general anesthesia, but you can request for a local or spinal anesthetic and be awake. There may be some pain after the arthroscopy is done.
