What Is Causing The Bleeding In The Nose With Diabetes?

My 76 year old father in law, who is diabetic, woke up choking and grasping for air in the middle of the night and realized it was caused by a bloody nose. Next day he was suffering from severe headaches. Today, I noticed his left eye has become crossed and he says he sees double out of the crossed eye. I asked him to go see his Dr. right away but claimed he has an appointment next week and that he'll be ok. What could be causing the problem? He does had his diabetes under control and sees a specialist regularly.

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

I think you should meet a neurologist as soon as possible. To me what seems a possibility is that his blood pressure has possibly shot up all of a sudden. Therefore there might be rupture of vessels, a condition quite common in diabetics in view of possible vasculopathies.

There is a possibility that his blood pressure has shot up. The increased pressure caused rupture of the nose vessels causing the nasal bleed.
Similarly a vessel may have gone wrong in the brain and caused the cross eyed feature.

Get his blood pressure checked as soon as possible.

Do remember, this is only one of the many possibilities. I am mentioning only this cause this needs the most quick treatment.

Suggest a CT scan of the brain

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.
