What Is Causing The Numbness On My Left Side?

I ve been experiencing numbness on my left side while sleeping. This includes my arm, hand, leg and foot. Also during the day my left foot hurts. Its near the big toe area and the pain leads up to the top of my foot. When I get up to walk from sitting, sometimes I have a hard time walking because of the pain and my leg feels a little numb most of the day. What could be going on?
