Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been diagnosed with high cholesterol and am now taking the generic version of lipitor and am on a strict diet. I am also trying to exercise more, per my doctor s suggestions. The stationary bicycle gives a heart rate. What is considered a good heart rate? Does it depend on age, weight, height, general health of a person?
The heart rate is dependent on age and general health of a person. For instance, the new born have faster beating heart so the heart rate is normally high.
However, as the age advances the heart rate decreases as it slows down. For normal adults it is in the range of 60 to 100 beats per minute.
Moreover, conditions like, fever or exercise increases heart rate and conditions like thyroid disorder can lead to changes in heart rate.
Hope I have answered your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ayesha Shareef, General & Family Physician
