What Is Fluid Build Up In The Tumor Cavity Post Brain Surgeries Suggestive Of?
My sister had a WHO Grade I Pilocytic Astrocytoma 2014. She had two major brain surgeries to get rid of the tumor. Her MRI 2 weeks ago shows a build up of fluid (or jello like substance said the neurosurgeon) in the tumor cavity. What does this mean? Is this life threating? We didn t get a lot of details from the doctor except come back in 6 months and we ll do another MRI. Thanks, Joyce
Normally, the body does not leave empty spaces. The moment a cavity is created in the body, it is filled with something, most of the time, it is filled with fluid. So, it is normal to have fluids fill the cavity after a tumor is removed in the brain. The fact that the doctor did not mention anything else is another indicator that this is a normal finding.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
