What Is My Medical Test Report Suggestive Of?

I have had recent checkup, fasting blood sugar 104...Dr. would like me to go onto a statin..the sheet reports cholesterol 242, triglyceride l64 & HDL 47..I do not have heart problem, age 85...some arthritis ..only take thyroid (50 years)..am healthy..have read that statin drugs do seem to help those with heart problems, but no indication of any helpfulness for one not having heart issues..hard to know what to believe..would appreciate any comments. I eat wisely and am active.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
Understand your concern
Your blood sugar is normal (normal fasting blood sugar: 70-100 mg/dl).
Cholesterol : high (normal : Triglyceride : slight high (normal :
HDL: Better (better if between 40-59 mg/dl)

So hypothyroid and high cholesterol may increase risk of heart problem. so doctor give you statin,
Statin is HMG CO-A inhibitor (rate limiting enzyme of cholesterol pathway) and reduce the cholesterol level as you have high cholesterol.
Avoid spicy and fatty food, do brisk walking daily, check lipid profile and heart profile regularly, do yoga and relaxation medication, eat garlic that is antioxidant and reduce cholesterol also, also take fresh fruits.
Hope this may help you
Best regards
