Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was diagnosed with test results for HSV1 6.39 and HSV2 3.05. What does each test result means. For the HSV2, is that considered low and can I get another method of testing done? Also, my companion tested positive for HSV1 but not HSV2. How is that possible that he did not get infected with HSV2? There is also another individual who tested negative for all, how is that possible.? He was involved with both of us as I come to find out?
HSVIgG higher than 1.1 is suggestive of past or present infection. HSV is contagious but it may happen that some people will not get it when they may get in contact with it and will get the infection.
It is impossible to know if one will get infected or not. This will depend on the time of the shedding of HSV from the host and the time of contact with other people. If two people come in contact but this is not the time the host sheds the virus, the other person will not get infected. Also, there are times that the person may get in contact with HSV and not get infected.
There is also another scenario that is related to the window period for HSV, which means the test may have been conducted too early and is false positive due to being early.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
