Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter is 38 weeks pregnant. Her latest ultrasound showed an abundance of amniotic fluid. The heartbeat and all other indications are normal. Early genetic testing had been positive for Noonan s Syndrome although subsequent testing with a fetal specialist indicated there were no apparent cardiac or skeletal issues. The baby is already over 9 lbs according to ultrasound measurements. The Dr. is recommending a C section be performed tomorrow. I m wondering if this is necessary and warranted and what concerns I should have?
The average size of a healthy, full-term newborn is 7-1/2 pounds. If it is more than 8 pounds and 13 ounces consider as big baby. Here your baby is 9 pounds -big baby. Better C section.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr C.ELANCHEZHIAN, General & Family Physician
