Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my husband s recent xray result reveals the following: left lower fibrosis and blunted left lateral costophrenic sulcus for which minimal effusion and/or thickening is not excluded. For reference, my husband underwent open heart surgery in 2006 and 4 times angioplasty the latest was in 2014. He also underwent electro cardio version last february. Is the xray result a cause to worry? thank you for your time. god bless
Yes, it is a cause of concern. Your husbands X-ray indicates that blunting of costophrenic angles is caused by effusion. Effusion can be related to COPD or CHF. You are suggested to get him clinically examined & assessed.
Fibrosis & effusion can be treated with medicines/antibiotics, thoracentesis, pleural drain, etc depending on the severity of the clinical symptoms. He needs a follow up clinical cardiac examination with all required blood & imaging tests to detect any factor causing discomfort & get treated at the earliest.
,Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
