Hello...
Thanks for your query. OCD is characterised by recurrent thoughts and associated repetitive actions. We have effective anti-OCD drugs like clomipramine, fluoxetine as well as psychotherapy techniques like exposure and response prevention that are useful particularly in combination with one another. We generally continue treatment for a long time. Hope you found the information useful.

Hi
Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic
The problem you are suffering is called Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The symptoms include 'recurrent, intrusive unwanted thoughts called "Obsessions" and repititive behaviors called "compulsions". You have compulsive washing as a symptom. The disease is treated with anti-obsessional drugs like fluoxamine and other SSRIs. Temporarily benzodiazepines are used for anxiety relief. Psychotherapy techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure and response prevention, etc are used. Consult a good psychiatrist. Treatment compliance is important for success.
Thanks and regards

Psychiatrist Dr. Anjana Rao Kavoor's  Response
Hi,
The symptoms you describe are most likely of an Obsessive Compulsive disorder. OCD falls under the anxiety spectrum disorder in the classificatory system, and hence has associated depressive and anxiety features.
The disease is characterized by repetitive, intrusive thoughts on a myriad of themes like fear of dirt and contamination, fear of harm to near and dear ones, repetitive doubts, intrusive images and uncontrollable impulses. Compulsions are basically motor acts like repetitive washing, checking, slowness with activities etc. which the sufferer usually perform to reduce the anxiety associated with the obsessive thoughts.

OCD is treatable. There are psychotherapies like ERP, CBT etc. which have been successfully used in such cases. Along with them, there are medicines to address the issues.

I would suggest a consultation with a Psychiatrist for proper and comprehensive management. I believe the prognosis can be good.
Hope that helps.

Your symptoms are more of Anxiety disorder and not of Mania.
It may be possible that it is your personality.
Better you consult Psychiatrist at your place, who can definately help you
