Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Is Persistent Twitching Of Muscle Around The Knee Suggestive Of?
The muscle next to my knee (vastus medialis, I think) has been twitching throughout the day every day for about a week now. It s painless and is not following any type of injury or change in my daily routine. It seems to be isolated to my left leg only, though one day I did have minor twitching in my left arm. I ve had twitching in my eyes before, but none of the other twitching has occurred as regularly as the twitching in my knee. What could be the cause of this?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Sirisha's Response
Muscle twitching may be due to many reasons ranging from minor to major life threatening conditions.physical examination and based on it some investigations are required to r/o the serious reasons.so it is better you consult a qualified physician and get examined. In your case i want to rule out seizure activity in your brain.if it is sever your dr will decide line of treatment based on the diagnosis. other wise elevation of leg provides relief and allows the muscles to rest and recover from overuse and injury. application of hot and cold compressions and massaging of the leg will provide relief(once serious conditions are ruled out).
