What Is Red, Swollen And Painful Toe On Left Foot Suggestive Of?
My big toe on my left foot all of a sudden started to get red, swollen and painful. The nail is not ingrown on the edges at all. Not experienced this before, although I do have raynauds in my fingers and sometimes my toes go numb and tingle in cold temps. Wondering what this could be a sign of and should I see a doctor. It s been off and on the last few days. Thank-you for your response.
Hello, Thanks for using Healthcaremagic. i had gone through the details you have posted. sudden appearance of painful, swollen red great toe is characteristic of gout also called as Podagra. for this you need to take painkillers like naprosyn or ibuprofen and if not improving colchicine. you may need to see your doc for that and have blood chemistries routine and to look for serum uric acid level and if high start meds for that. serum uric acid may be normal during the acute episode. kindly avoid alcohol if u have habit of as that increases uric acid, meat products.. hope this helps..
