Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Sperm motility refers to the ability of sperm to move and is determined by two factors: sperm speed and quality of movement. In active motility or "grade A" sperm have good progressive motility. They swim fast, strong, and in a straight line and thus capable of fertilizing an egg.
Whereas in sluggish motility or "grade B" the sperm move very slowly, or they exhibit "non-progressive motility" - where they move their tails but fail to progress and this is often a contributing factor to
male infertility since they are incapable of fertilizing a woman's egg. As per WHO (world health organization) recommendation, the motility should be 50% or more with grade A+B motility /25% or more with grade AThis indicates the fertilizing capabilities of the sperm. Based on the above, your
semen analysis appears to be within the normal range.
Sperm count can be increased by the following:
1. Avoid
smoking, alcohol, coffee and stress.
2. Take nutritious food - Diet that's low in fat, and high in protein, vegetables, and whole grains is good for your health and for your sperm.
3. Eat plenty of fish, meat, eggs, fruits & vegetables. Peanuts, walnuts, cashews, sunflower & pumpkin seeds are also considered to increase sperm count. Oysters are rich in zinc and are known to increase sperm and
testosterone production.
4. Have sex & masturbate less often - the more times you ejaculate, the less dense your semen will be. Maintain a gap of 3 days between two consecutive ejaculations.
5. Exercise regularly, try to lose any excess weight, which tends to cause testosterone/
estrogen imbalances.
6. Use loose cotton underwears, avoid hot baths and saunas.
7. Have sex in the early morning as sperm levels are often highest in the mornings.
Hope the advice given above would be helpful and useful. Let me know if I can assist you further.
