Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Is Swollen Cheekbone Post An Injury Suggestive Of?
I fell 6 wks ago and bruised my cheek bone. I had a black eye and still have knot on cheek bone! Top teeth went through top lip! Oral Surgeon said he can remove the bump on lip( scar tissue) but cheek bone is still swollen! Is this normal and do I just give it more time? Do I still need ice or heat? No fracture!
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. So sorry to hear about your problem and will try my level best to resolve it. As per your complain, swelling over the cheek bone can be due to Hematoma formation secondary to injury and at times hematoma gets localised and encapsulated leading to formation of a firm lump.
Black eye is due to accumulation of blood around the eye from broken blood vessels. I would suggest you to get an x ray of the face done to check for cheek bone related injury or fracture and in case if there is no fracture then you can do warm and cool compresses over it and apply Heparin gel to regress the swelling. You can also do compresses around the eye to fade the bruising faster.
Hope I have answered your query. Any further questions are welcome.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
