What Is The Average Life Span For A Diabetic Patient?
Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...I have been a type i diabetic for over 50 years. I feel my health beginning to decline dispite all my best efforts. What is the average life span for someeone like me?
Diabetes is progressive disorder and it requires lifestyle modification and medications to keep the disease under control.
Type 1 diabetic can live long healthy life if ABC are controlled. (A - HbA1C Blood glucose under control, B - Blood pressure under control & C - Lipid Levels are within normal range)
As you are type 1 diabetic and duration of disease is more than 50 years, the insulin requirement keep on increasing with increase in duration of diabetes.
It would require more units of Insulin to control your sugar levels. Also have Diet under control and Keep doing physical activities, exercises within comfortable range.
Also I would advice you to check BP and Lipid Levels regularly and keep it under control to increase your life span.
Hope this helps.

Type 1 diabetic patients are prone to develop microvascular complications associated with diabetes. Well controlled diabetes can live a normal life spam. But it the complications sets in and are not taken care off then the life span reduces 7 to 10 years on an average.
Hi Lifespan depends entirely on control of blood sugar and blood pressure if you have a long term control on your blood sugar there is no difference between a non diabetic and diabetic so dont get depressed and your psychological strength will support your life span. Thank you
