Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Is The Cause And Treatment For LADA Type 1 Diabetes?
my daughter age 22 was diagnosed with LADA type 1.5 diabetes, she just got the LADA diagnosis today just found out she had diabetes last Friday. Her A1 is 7.3, Her glutamic Acid Decaboxylase was 59.7 and her C-Petide level was 0.7. her blood glucose has been around 305 most mornings and around 150 during the day on the pills they gave her. they re going to start slow release insuline shots on Tuesday but have given her no diet guidelines until then. I m concerned.
LADA is a different type of diabetes which will finally need Insulin. But now it seems little early to be started on Insulin. Because you have the lab results, and c peptide levels are fairly good, which means your body is still having good amount of insulin, I would prefer to try oral anti-diabetes medicines for now. There are multiple options. Definitely, diet and lifestyle measures has to be followed. Calories from fruit, vegetables, whole grains and legumes. Low fat milk. Replace other fats with fish, olive oil and nuts. Avoid red meat and artificial sweeteners.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
