Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been suffering with heartburn for three weeks. It s a constant hot feeling in my chest but no pain. Also have been experiencing gnawing feeling in my stomach. All of these symptoms fell on the heels of a stomach virus we all experienced in the house. I took medium for 3 days and then my gastro nurse told me to switch to Zantac...no relief so I started my self on Prilosec and started to notice some relief...but today I had an endoscopy. The findings were...segmental discontinuous erythema with irregular Z line of the mucosa with no bleeding in the gastroesophageal junction.. Which suggests esophagitis he took 4 biopsies..patchy discontinuous erythema of the mucosa with no bleeding was noted in the Antrum which suggests gastritis...he took 3 biopsies ..... And finally normal mucosa was noted in the duodenum....he took 4 biopsies to determine celiac disease.......when I awoke from the procedure the dr told me I had reflux and gave me samples of nexium 40 mg to take for 3 weeks. I asked him about Prilosec and he said nexium was better and I didn t have a chance to tell him that the Prilosec seemed to work better......anyway, should I be alarmed that he performed so many biopsies and I m so paranoid of esophageal cancer since my symptoms won t go away
Rest assured that you are not suffering from cancer. You have reflux esophagitis that will require a prolong course of antacid drugs and prokinetic drugs. Moreover omit fatty and spicy meals for some time. Drink plenty of liquids. This is not a life threatening condition. You will be alright soon.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
