What Is The Cause And Treatment For Hypertension?

I am 38 years old guy with a strong family history of hypertension and cardiac problems. I have been diagnosed high BP in 2010. SInce then I am taking concor 2.5 and Benitec 20 medicine. I have really worked hard on my life style and do go in regular walks and always try to keep myself stress free. Now it s like 15 -20 days that my BP stays normal without medicine. At times I do feel the bp and when I find high I take the medicine. Can I stop medicine completely and control it with proper life style changes

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I appreciate your concern. Lifestyle modification in the form of dietary control and changes and regular physical exercise forms the mainstay of hypertension control. If the bp is not controlled by these, only then medicines are added to control hypertension. So if lifestyle modifications are able to keep your BP under control, then you can probably stop the medicines but do it only after consultation with your Doctor
