Hello, Thanks for using healthcaremagic. Normally metoprolol doesn't cause insomnia rather it can cause drowsiness. Insomnia can be devided in two categories. One is primary insomnia in which sleep disturbance is without any other problem. Secondary insomnia is due to physical or psychiatric problem like arthritis or depression. In this case treatment for that basic problem is needed. In both types benzodiazepine medicines can be used for treatment. Yes one thing is metoprolol can cause depression and insomnia may be part of it. So discuss your problem with your doctor. If your doctor feels, he will change the medicines or can refer you to psychiatrist. Hope I have answered your query, late me know if still any info needed. Regards, Dr. C. K. Solanki
