Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Last week I started having a tooth ache on lower front I believe they said tooth 25. I went to the dentist who said she couldn't see anything clinically but after a couple of test determined it was probably a nerve problem. I was refered to a endodontist who did EXACTLY what the dentist did and told me I did not need a root canal but that a good cleaning would help. Gave me very little pain meds and sent me on my way. Now 3 days later I am still having the tooth pain. And it is now radiating up my jaw and into my ear and throat and on top of it I am running fever. I'm taking ibuprofen 800mg and norco 5mg alternately and is not helping. I looked in my mouth and I don't see anything different from last week. No swelling or pus pockets. I called my dentist who told me she couldn't help me since I was referred to endo so I called him and of course his office is closed today. So I need help
As per your complain most commonly tooth pain occurs due to infection in the tooth which causes inflammation of the nerves leading to severe pain and when the infection reaches beyond the root tips of the tooth there can be pus formation in that area and in turn severe pain..
This is one aspect..
The other aspect can be that at times deep seated infection in gums can erode the bone and the infection reaches near the root tips of the tooth and can cause infection in tooth in a retrograde manner from the root tips upwards leading to inflammation and pain..
In case after medication also your pain does not subside you can get root canal treatment of the tooth done to get relieved..
Hope your query is solved..
