What Is The Cause For Blood In The Mucus While Coughing And Blowing The Nose?

I have recovered from the flu, fever, chills, etc., and this was followed with a cough which is getting better. I've had a few coughing "spells" where the mucus has specs of blood in it. Also have found some when I blow my nose. Is this something that comes with coughing hard? Should I be concerned?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of blood in the mucus while coughing and blowing the nose which is due to severe upper respiratory tract infection or sinusitis . Soemtimes tonsil brust or rupture of blood vessels of nose can produce such symptoms . I would suggest you not to worry about it. You should take antibacterial drugs such as Levofloxacin along with anti-inflammatory drug. Avoid hot, spicy and sharp food substances. Take diet rich in multivitamins and vitamin C. Your symptoms will resolve in 4-5 days. If symptoms keeps on persisting visit ENT specialist once and get some routine blood investigation done. Take diet rich in multivitamins. Drink plenty of water. Take hot milk rich in turmeric as it will booster immunity. You should get x-ray chest done and get it examined. Taking steam will help your along and take proper rest .
