Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Is The Cause For Carpel Tunnel With Numbness In Fingers And A Liquid Swollen Cyst?
I have a Worker Comp. nightmare I am filing complaint forms on. The doctor in Question wrote Diagnosis Code 726.4 and that is all after I have been having a month of numbness in L-thumb and fingers, my hand swelled up with a lot of fluid, I ended up with a huge liquid swollen cyst and I couldn't even use my hand to bathe myself. I am file a complain about this doctor because he never helped me, didn't tell the truth on the cart notes and then when I went to question him, he was no longer at the clinic and no one still has been able to find him and it has been almost two yrs. I told him of the other three doctors I saw prior to him at a Non-profit clinic that couldn't do a Workers Comp. issue and sent me elsewhere. By the time I say this person, I was angry and depressed that my hand has gotten worse and I was not getting help because I worked at Walmart. The Civil rights div. said I have a solid case and are helping me resolve this issue, but I do not know what this code is. Hope you may be able to help. The test to find out the numbness in my thumb was never performed. I now have permanent problems with my L- hand and never got the help I needed from anyone. They said I have carpel tunnel as well and no one did anything about it. Thank you.
Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hello, Thanks for your query. The inner wall of the sheaths contains cells that produce a slippery fluid to lubricate the tendons. Lubrication is essential for the normal and smooth functioning of the tendons. With repetitive or excessive movement of the hand, the lubrication system may malfunction. It may not produce enough fluid or it may produce a fluid with poor lubricating qualities. Failure of the lubricating system creates friction between the tendon and its sheath causing inflammation and swelling of the tendon area. In turn, the swelling squeezes the median nerve in the wrist or carpal tunnel. Repeated episodes of inflammation cause fibrous tissue to form. The fibrous tissue thickens the tendon sheath, and hinders tendon movement. I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
