What Is The Cause For Numbness In Left Hand And Heart Racing?

A few times I have had my blood pressure go up for no apparent reason and the doctors don t know why. It goes back down after three days or one month. For the last two nights I have had my left hand slightly numb and my heart racing, a bit difficult to walk to the bathroom. I had a full heart examination two years ago and they said nothing wrong. Is this serious? What can be wrong?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there,

I do not find it normal for your blood pressure to go up for no apparent reason, and then, getting back normal within few days. If you ran your last heart examinations two years ago, I highly suggest to repeat them now:
- ECG
- cardiac echo
- Stress test
- holter monitoring

I also suggest to run further blood works:
- diabetes testing
- measuring the levels of cholesterol in blood
- liver/kidney function tests
- urine analysis
- complete blood work

to exclude other metabolic problems that might cause high blood pressure.

Depending on the tests results, specific treatment will be prescribed taking into account your gender and age too.

Hope it helped!
