The most likely reason that they didn't do an
ultrasound is because the
HCG levels were very low, and at this early stage in
pregnancy they would not have been able to see anything yet. The spotting and discharge that you had may have been early
implantation bleeding, in which case the HCG levels will continue to go up, and soon you will be able to see a healthy pregnancy. In that case, your doctor will soon be able to do an ultrasound and confirm a healthy pregnancy.
However, it is also possible that the spotting and discharge are a sign of a
miscarriage In that case, you will likely have heavier spotting, bleeding, and cramping until you pass the pregnancy.
Either way, it is important for you to follow up with your
obgyn so that he/she can help you through the miscarriage or the pregnancy. At this point, there is not much that you can do other than avoid heavy lifting and sexual intercourse.
Bedrest has not been shown to help, but it makes sense to avoid strenuous activity.
