What Is The Cause Of Continuing Pain Despite Taking Medicine?

About a month in a half ago I got the flu for the first time in my 21 years of being alive.. Well flu went away, but I had a hard coughing spell, which got to the point it made my side under my right breast hurt soo bad.. It hurt to breathe, talk, laugh, move, touch, all the above really. I have been to 2 different doctors, they both did xrays and seen no fractures, or breaks so they prescribed pain pills, and inflammation pills to help with the severe pain I was experiencing.. Well, I m still in a bunch of pain and I don t do any of my usual physical activities since my injury, so I don t understand why I am still hurting so bad. If it was a muscle it would have healed in that big of a time frame, but it hasn t gotten any better just worse. Any idea on what could be causing my pain still?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi there.

Such sort of pain is due to muscle sprain of the chest . There is no other reason.
It probably hasn't healed because you might have not given it proper rest.

Start wearing a rib belt at the level of pain for support.
Hot fomentation along with local analgesic gel massage will help.

Take tramodol for pain relief.
Take a cough suppressant to avoid straining the chest.

Chest injuries take time to heal and you will have to be patient.

I hope my advice has helped.
Good luck
