What Is The Cause Of Cyclical Fever, sore Throat And Cough?
Hi! I have been having 102 degree F fever for the past 5 days. The fever is cyclic type wherein I usually get it at 2:00 pm and at night. My CBC was normal and malarial parasite was negative. I got my widal test done and it came out to be negative too. My serum Bilirubin levels were also in the normal range. I also have sore throat and cough. What could it be? Can it be viral fever or should I wait for 3 days more so that the typhoid starts manifesting?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of cyclic fever- The name ''cyclic itself imply that it is either due to Malaria or due to Enetic fever, commonly called as Typhoid. The irony about both the fevers is thus that every case of malaria may not be shown on teh slide and in typhoid it takes around 7 days for the report of Widal to be turned as positive. Hence the ways to confirm the cause: Go for blood culture and sensitivity. Repeat the slide for malaria daily and now we have antigen detection kits. Another best way is to get a treatment for malaria and typhoid, both simultaneously as immediate response indicates malaria. Continue the full course, repeat the tests and continue the treatment as per the reports. Sore throat and cough can indicate viral fever, although the symptomatic treatment is necessarily the same for all.
