What Is The Cause Of Headache And Black Stools?

Had a long heavy night of drinking(red wine, and a mickey). I ended up drinking to much and throwing up. This morning i had a terrible head ache and took advil. Now my stomach wont stop making noises and i just had black stool. I still feel a bit sick. Is this still the hang over caused by the red wine or is it something more radical?

Hi,

The headache was due to hangover and is likely to go away in a couple of days. But the black stools and abdominal discomfort are a cause for concern as they point towards the possibility of bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract. Heavy alcohol intake and analgesics like Advil, both increase the likelihood of gastric bleeding by irritating the mucosal lining. In my opinion, you should consult a doctor and inform him about the passage of black stools so that necessary tests can be done. Till then, take antacids for relief. Keep away from alcohol and analgesics.

Best wishes.
