What Is The Cause Of Shadow?

64 yo M. History melanoma and 4B HL 06. Total remission. Recurrence 10. Autologous HSCT 11. All CTs and PETs totally clear until last week. PET w contrast showed shadow at site (groin) of recurrence. Any possibilities of something besides recurrence causing shadow ? Onco appt next week.

Thanks for writing in.

PET scan shows areas of increased metabolism. In your case there is a focus of activity at the groin which in most possibility can be a lymph node. Recent surgery in the area can show false high uptake due to healing tissues. If there has been no groin surgery the it is best to analyze the area for any possible lymph node metastasis.
