What Is The Cause Of Sores In Nostrils That Recur Despite Antibiotics?

I get nose sores ( in the nostrils)...they eventually break and ooze....I finally tried triple antibiotic cream...that seems to help, but the sores come back. It actually looks like the rounded upper tissue of my nose is cracked. Today, I just started a new one...tender and red. I've suffered with this for years....it used to be seasonal, it seems like the last year they've been more prevalent. Eventually my outer nostril is crusted and oozing, it does cause sneezing when I either try to open my nostril or relieve the tightness.

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM.

I would keep a possibility of Impetigo. Nasal carriage of staph aureus is the likely cause in your case.

If i was your treating doctor i would have started you on oral antibiotics (penicillin group OR cephalosporin group) for a week along with topical mupirocin ointment at the site of impetigo, as well as in the nasal vestibule twice daily for 5 days to eradicate carrier state.

take care
regards
