What Is The Cause Of Swollen Leg And Difficulty In Lifting The Same Leg?

My 93 year old mother has been diagnosed with arthritis in knees and recurring symptom of one leg that will not lift. This same leg is swollen from calf down to toes. Thoughts? She is being tested for a blood clot and/or Achilles injury but I am not sure either is the problem.

sometimes the arthritic knee may cause these symptoms in the leg.
so that could also be the cause, apart from ofcourse ruling out DVT and varicose veins.
