hello and thank you for askinh HCM,
I understand your concern because the discomfort can make a daily routine unpleasant, and quite often women become embarrassed and distressed with the situation. Your doctor was right. Women in the menopausal transition may experience
vaginal itching due to fluctuations in
estrogen levels. As estrogen levels decline in the perimenopause, the vaginal wall becomes thinner and drier, and itching may result.
My suggestion is to use vaginal creams and suppositories which can relieve vaginal itching. There are creams on the market that can relieve vaginal itching. Make sure you purchase a cream that is specifically formulated for
vaginal irritation and apply according to the provided instructions.
Tight clothing or underwear can cause further discomfort when it comes to vaginal itching. Instead, wear clothing that is loose in the crotch area. Wearing cotton underwear is another good option, because nylon and other synthetic materials can decrease the airflow to the vaginal area.
Keep the vaginal area clean. After a bowel movement, be sure to wipe from front to back so that no bacteria from the anus can enter the vagina.
Taking baths can help relieve some of the irritation of the vagina. Adding baking soda is also believed to help, because it lowers the vaginal pH level which has been attributed to the causes of itching.
I hope this answer was helpful to you.
