I do not want to give you false hopes- I have seen one case at Groote Schuur Hospital Cape-Town who has had 7 heart attacks.He did very well after Prof Christiaan Barnard( The Heart Transplant Pioneer) had performed a piggy-back heart transplant with him. Individuals hearts vary and the sizes and the severity of the heart attacks vary greatly. To classify a heart attack in categories of mild ,moderate or severy is arbitrary. It all depends upon the extent of the cardiac muscle damage and the location. The question of the likelihood of further attacks is also very variable. In a lot of cases when the patients have recovered from one or more heart attacks they thereafter become fully aware of the dangers and these make them very careful of 3 aspects ;1. they become very regular regarding medications 2.Their diet changes for the better 3. They avoid physical and psychological stresses while taking gradual graduated exercises etc. With these 3 changes in lifestyle these patients do remarkably well and they even feel the improvement. Surprisingly then,the next heart attack may be postponed for years or even decades.
