Dear madam i can understand your concern. I am sorry to hear you have been having difficulties getting your blood sugar previously. I am very happy you are this conscientious because having a well controlled blood sugar is very important in preventing the onset of diabetic complications. In my opinion metformin is a very good drug and we need to consider stopping metformin if its giving lots of gastric intolerance. This medication glipizide is a drug which stimulates your pancreas and increases insulin out put from pancreas by using this kind of drugs pancreas will go into secondary failure and will not respond to drugs in future So considering this kind of side effects usually we will prefer to use drugs like DPP-4 inhibitors as second line of medication which will preserve your pancreas. i suggest you to restart metformin along with glipizide or DPP-4 inhibitors kindly discuss with your doctor for further course of action. regards Dr vamsi krishna Diabetologist Apollo hospitals
