What Is The Correct Range Of Blood Pressure In Old Age?
I am a 71 year old male in good health but take one tablet each evening for raised bloodpressure at the moment my b/p reads 140over 80 pulse sometime shows 56 these readings have been lower and also a little higher but what is a god reading for me, my cholesterol as far as I know 4.9 to 5.0 I don't drink or smoke, I am not boreing just carefull.
Hi, Thanks for writing to HCM. Blood pressure of 140/80 mmHg is normal for your age. It would be better if you maintain Systolic blood pressure (upper reading) between 130 to 140 mmHg and Diastolic blood pressure (lower reading) below 90 mmHg. You can maintain this by decreasing the consumption of salt ( Pulse pressure could vary but needs to be maintained at 72 +/- 10. Continue to keep your cholesterol under check. Moderate exercise will keep you fit and healthy. Hope the information provided would be useful. Wish you good health.
