I have mitral valve proplapse and I have asthma... recently i have been getting shortness of breath (sometimes) and I now have a cough that has been with me for 2 weeks now... is it asthma related or could my mitral valve prolapse be getting worse
Hi thanks for using Healthcaremagic .. The symptoms could be due to reactive airway .. There is also a cough variant of asthma... The asthma/reactive airway there will be bronchospasm(construction of airway) which causes irritant cough.. Mitral valve prolapse can progress to Mitral Regurgitation . By doing an ECHO Cardiogram(USG scanning of the heart) can rule out the situation .. There will be excretional breathlessness, palpitations, heaviness of chest I feel your symptoms are due to asthma than Cardiac
Try inhalational Bronchodilators (Inhalers) and see for the difference. If it is helping you then the problem could be respiratory ... You can also do a Pulmonary Function Test Thank you...
