I am a 50 yr old woman who had a thorax ct with contrast to look for a possible P.E. due to my bhrt. all was negative. however, I myself saw the views (working in the ER previously) and I noticed an eraser size dark spot. Radiologist did not see anything . Yet looking for only the possible P.E. I am just wandering if this spot may be reason for concern or if it is normal to only look for what was ordered .
I comprehend that the eraser sized dark spot on the CT scan thorax which you were looking in to is the trachea. This is a normal structure seen in the central portion of upper chest and is the large airway. You need not worry as a PE cannot be missed on a CT scan thorax with contrast. Since it is a normal structure there is no reason to panic.
