What Is The Definitive Diagnosis Of Amiodarone Toxicity?

What is the definitive diagnosis of Amiodarone toxicity and C.I.D.P? I have more symptoms of Amiodarone toxicity than C.I.D.P. My Cardiologist THINKS!! it MIGHT!! be Amiodarone toxicity but my Neurologist THINKS!! it is C.I.D.P. I am concerned because I seem to be getting worse but Dr's don't seem too concerned of my concerns.

I read your query and I understand your concern.

Amiodarone neurologic toxicity causes involvement of the peripheral nerves only, while CIDP (chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy) involves also the nerve roots.
Clinically they can be similar, but they should be distinguished by the EMG which should evidence nerve root involvement in CIDP. Also if still in doubt will be distinguished by lumbar puncture (elevation of protein level in cerebrospinal fluid in the case of CIDP). At times, is performed MRI with contrast (which shows enhancement of the nerve roots after the administration of the contrast in the case of CIDP).
