Hi
Ultrasonography may be useful in making the diagnosis of a septate uterus, however,
Hysteroscopy is considered the gold standard for the assessment of intrauterine abnormalities, including septa. If the ER doctor has the impression of septate, you should definitely go for other investigations to confirm the same including Hysteroscopy, MRI or saline infusion sonohysterography.
Currently, indications for surgical correction of a
uterine septum include pelvic pain,
endometriosis, an obstructing phenomenon, recurrent miscarriage,
infertility and history of preterm delivery. It is not considered necessary to remove a septum that has not caused problems, especially in women who are not considering pregnancy.
So, I will suggest you to go for proper investigation and required treatment if any of the above-mentioned problems are there.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
