What Is The Difference Between Eliquis And Aspirin?

What is the difference between eliquis and an aspirin a day or two times a day? My mother has Afib and is on Eliquis and the pharmacy fee is very high to buy this medication and she and I were wanting to know if she could take an aspirin instead of Eliquid. Your thoughts?--Sara

Hi Dear ,

As per your query your mother has been prescribed eliquis by doctor which is expensive and you want to know that if you can but aspirin instead . Well eliquis (apixaban) helps to prevent platelets in your blood from sticking together and forming a blood clot . On the other hand aspirin, or acetylsalicylic acid is a salicylate drug, and is generally used as an analgesic for minor aches and pains, to reduce fever and also as an anti-inflammatory drug . But now a days aspirin is being used as an anti-platelet ,which used to prevent blood clot formation in long-term low doses to prevent heart attacks and strokes in high risk patients . So you can use aspirin instead of Eliquis , but your should consult your cardiologist about it first .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
