What Is The Difference Between Ibuprofen And Mefenamic?

My daughter is 2 years old and she was having high viral fever for nearly complete 1 day on Saturday. First prescription of Ibuprofen (5 ml) which is prescribed for regular use in case of fever did not reduce the fever. Hence when revisited to Dr. it was changed to Mefenamic which had a good effect.Wanted to know if any specific differences between the two.

Hello,
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic!
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.

Ibuprofen and mefenenic both are NSAIDs( non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs).
The mechanism of action and indications are almost similar.
Ibuprofen is preferred for children as it is better tolerated and side effects are very minimal.
Mefenenic is given in cases where ibuprofen is not effective.
Thanks
