What Is The Difference Between Sciatic Nerve Pain And Joint Pain?

What is the difference between sciatic nerve pain and SI joint pain? Are they located in the same region? I get severe stabbing pain when I get up from a chair or try to walk. It takes days to weeks to recover even with stretching and pain gel. I had a bad accident down a flight of stairs 20 years ago which started the pain.

Hello,

No, both are the very different entity. The sciatic nerve, if it is damaged by some means or irritation, can cause pain along the course of nerve or numbness.

You can google the course of the sciatic nerve. It runs in the back of the thigh and divides in the leg. Anywhere through this course, it pains and is almost radiating nature only.

If you have joint pain, then it is involved to only that joint or multiple joint pains, but there is no running pain meaning radiating kind. So, you should only describe what kind of pain you have with this knowledge.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
