What Is The Difference In Adequate And Moderate Growth Of Staph?

What is the difference in adequate growth of staph and moderate on a culture from sinus? My daughter has been on 2 different antibiotics. The first time the culture showed Ecoli and she cleared that but the culture then showed adequate growth of Staph. She was treated with Doxy and now the culture shows Moderate growth of staph which the Dr wants to put her on Rifampin for. Now she has pus all over her tonsil. Im at my wits end

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Indeed, staph infection of the sinus is very fastidious. Now, my question is : What type of staph has been shown?

Because certain strains of staph are normal flora of the sinus and upper respiratory tract. So, we should know if it is pathogenic staph.

If confirmed, its treatment is difficult as it is often showing resistance. I hope that is not your daughter's case.

Pus in tonsils could be pus draining from sinuses, treatment might last a bit longer. Follow her doctor's advice. Keep good nasal and oral hygiene.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
