What Is The Dosage Of 3 Mg Lorazepam And 15 Mg Diazepam?

Hi, My name is Mary. I am transitioning from 3mg lorazepam daily to 15 mg diazepam daily under doctor s knowledge. I m trying to wean off my pills and I understand lorezapam has unpleasant side affects. Should I take both for a while and get of the lorazepam slowly and then the diazepam? My doctor never even mentioned switching to an alterative, he doesn t know, I looked into it myself. He said that would be fine. Thank you.

You are not achieving anything by weaning off lorazepam to diazepam since they are very similar drugs and have the same side effect profile. Combining them would be like taking a large dose of one of them. You should either be taking one or the other. If your objective is to get off this type of drug entirely, then just slowly reduce the dose of lorazepam over several weeks. It would be best to have specific instructions from your doctor on this, and he could prescribe smaller doses of the lorazepam to help you with this. If you are using lorazepam to treat a specific condition, such as anxiety, you may want to discuss alternative drugs that are in a different class from what you are taking now. Lorazepam and diazepam are in the class of benzodiazepines, which would all have a similar side effect profile, so you would want your doctor to help you select a drug in an entirely different class.
