Hi my doctor originally thought i had a mucus cyst in my ear. Now he can see it better and has said my ear drum has a dull grey patch on it I am due to have a hearing test ass the first step. Could you give me any more info please and would this cause a vibration and high pitched sound in my ear. Thank you
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have dull grey patch on the eardrum, normal tympanic membrane appears as pearly grey, shiny, translucent. it appears as pink or red in ear diseases, so dull patch indicate injury to ear drum. well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like altitude changes , infection, pricking by sharp object, allergy or tumor. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may examine with otoscope or may order blood test CT scan and MRI to confirm the diagnosis or rule out condition like tumor . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics course ( gentamicin) at least for 10 days along with decongestant and anti inflammatory. Doctor may also recommend patching of eardrum , tympanoplasty or radiation therapy for tumor .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
