What Is The Effect Of Methycobal Injection On Leg Pain ?
Goodafternoon sir, My question is - my father aged 80 years.He was prescribed Methycobal injection 500 mg once in a week for 4 inj. for leg pain etc.after test dose. can he take 500 mg at this age and i doubt whether doctor precibed for 500 mg instead 500 mcg. What will happen if test dose is not given? please clarify sir.

1. Its 500mcg. It is a water soluble vitamin, so no harm in taking even at this age. usually it is given on alternate days. since your doctor has prescribed it once a week, its still more safer.
2. Sometimes few patients have allergic reaction to the preparation. That's why test dose is advised.

Your doctor has written the dose wrongly as 500 mg instead of micrograms.
This injection comes in the strength of 500 micrograms and not milligrams.
Few people develop severe allergic reactions to injectable methycobalamine and that's why a prior test dose is given to identify those people who are allergic to it.
