Hi,
As I see you have underwent a procedure called calcaneal
osteotomy the surgeon would have advised you to when to apply and how much to apply the weight over the operated leg.
Post osteotomy you need to follow certain post surgical
rehabilitation plan.
Till the weight bearing is allowed you should do deep breathing exercises and strengthening of the sound limb (non-operated leg) via the static quadriceps, static
hamstring and straight leg raise. We need to prepare the sound limb to take the full weight of the body. Also some simple upper
limbs (hand) strengthening exercise if you are asked to used walker. In this stage you will have to use the Walker and do NWB (non weight bearing) walking.
Once the surgeon advice you to start the weight bearing program then it will follow this way.
25℅ partial weight bearing (usually toes)
50℅ half weight bearing (flat feet)
75% weight bearing (feet flat)
100℅ full weight bearing ( normal walking).
This pattern will be gradual and will be advised by the surgeon when to implement what.
You maybe be even advised to do ankle toe movements, static quadriceps, static hamstring and straight leg raise for strengthening the muscles of the sound limb.
Rest assured. if you are once done with full weight bearing then later after 3 months if x-ray reveals full healing then an ankle rehabilitation program will be started. Which can help to improve the surgical procedure to maximum output.
In my clinical practice of over 12 years usually people underwent such procedure have responded well to post surgical rehabilitation plan.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
